
Dr. Ali Erdemir
Dr. Ali Erdemir is a University Distinguished Professor and Halliburton Chair in Engineering Professor in the Mechanical Engineering Department of Texas A&M University, College Station, Texas, USA. He is also the founding Director of the Center for Interface Science and Engineering. Dr. Erdemir received his M.S. and Ph.D. degrees from the Georgia Institute of Technology in Atlanta, Georgia, in 1982 and 1986, respectively, and his B.S. degree from the Technical University of Istanbul, Turkey back in 1977. Prior to joining Texas A&M in 2020, he was an Argonne Distinguished Fellow at Argonne National Laboratory. In recognition of his research accomplishments, Dr. Erdemir has received numerous coveted awards (including the 2024 Tribology Gold Medal and 6 R&D-100 Awards) and such honors as being elected to the US National Academy of Engineering, National Academy of Inventors, European Academy of Sciences, European Academy of Sciences and Arts, World Academy of Ceramics, The Science Academy of Turkey, and the presidency of the International Tribology Council and the Society of Tribologists and Lubrication Engineers. He is also a Fellow of AAAS, ASME, STLE, AVS, and ASM-International. Dr. Erdemir has authored/co-authored more than 300 research articles and 18 book/handbook chapters, co-edited five books, presented more than 250 invited/keynote/plenary talks, and holds 37 U.S. patents. His current research focuses on bridging scientific principles with engineering innovations toward the development of new materials, coatings, and lubricants for a broad range of cross-cutting applications in manufacturing, transportation, and other energy conversion and utilization systems.
